Current Obsession

Not only is the idea a current obsession, it's a persistent one and has become a life-long goal to use it in my own home.

Two words, friends: Barn. Doors.

The idea of using barn doors as ways to close off just about any space in a house is not a new one...but boy is it a good one. Featured in everything from blogs to high end design magazines, it looks good in just about every space.

Here's the beauty of it: barn doors are just the beginning. You could install anything from a regular paneled door to a french door to a material like 3-form for a totally contemporary look. (More of 3-form and other products like it to come)

If this project seems totally daunting, try not to be too overwhelmed. It can be as difficult as you wan to make it. You can simply use a door you currently have, buy a new one, or go hunting for a reclaimed wood door. The hanging of the door is also simple. It's pretty easy to find a ready-to-install kit online by searching something like "rolling door kit". It will run you about $300 to $500 dollars for a basic one. You could also find everything you need a your big box home improvement stores.

Now... you know you want one. Where to install it!?

My favorite ideas:
Hide away your washer and dryer
Separate your dining room in style
Master bathroom entry
Create a wine cellar door that wows
Close off a pass-through with mini doors
Just about any passageway will work!
